What Are Today’s CEO’s Saying?Friday, October 18, 2013 12:43
Who doesn’t want to be a CEO? Does anyone sit around and think when they are kids “Hmm one day I really hope to be bossed around all day for 40 hours a week with little to no authority”? Of course not, when we were younger we all wanted to be superheroes, kings, queens, or a superstar of some sorts. As far as I know there hasn’t been a “real” superhero yet. Royalty doesn’t really do much now a days and you have to be born into it. And becoming the next Katy Perry is sadly extremely unlikely as well (especially if you’re a dude, but with modern technology I guess anything is possible). Any way to be a CEO is something both captivating and plausible. Here is an inside look at what today’s CEO’s are saying it takes to achieve such a status.
Ed Brown CEO of Patron Spirits Company
Ed Brown is the CEO of Patron, sounds pretty awesome doesn’t it? To be the owner of a liquor company must have its perks. Ed seems like a pretty decent guy though, (as many CEOs are). He is down to earth and stresses one thing; you need to have a happy staff. Ed believes you need to make your staff feel like family. “You need to make sure people enjoy coming to work”. He has lunch catered every day for his employees and even built a church on company property because a lot of his employees are religious. He also adds that he likes to have his employees’ multi task. By multi tasking it draws them away from boredom and feeling “stuck in a rut”.
Lizanne Falsetto CEO of ThinkThin
Lizanne Falsetto is the real deal. Not only is she the CEO of ThinkThin but she founded it, and oh yeah she used to be a model too. Lizanne said she realized she stumbled onto a “white space” with her healthy nutrition bars and from there went running with the idea. She founded the company in 1999 and her annual revenue is estimated at about 70 million smackaroos. When Liz launches a new product she said the easiest thing to do is to put it in front of the consumer and say “Hey try this”. Usually if they enjoy your product and understand how it can benefit them you’ve just gained a new customer. Lizanne also goes on to say how she really wants to promote mentorship and bonds between women in order to empower as well as show that if you have and idea, no matter who you are, you can do it if you believe in it enough.
David Angelo Chief Creative Officer of David&Goliath
David & Goliath have done work with Kia Motors, NFL Media, and Universal Studios Hollywood just to name a few. “Before you can ask clients to wear your brand, you need to be willing to own it yourself”. Well said, because if you believe in it your clients will be more apt to as well. In order to gain new clients him and his team sit down with clients and discuss what they stand for and what they can expect in return for doing business with them. David goes on to speak about how to pick a team and how he personally interviews people. He is straightforward and honest in saying that working for his company is not for everyone. “Relationships require casting the right people,” David says. When selecting the right employees, it helps to pick people who can blend with your current organization. It begins with your inner workings in order to produce something truly great.
Why Should We Listen These CEOs?
I think the answer is pretty obvious, BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL. The work place is not school, you can copy certain attributes that others are doing to be successful. There is not one rule in the book that says you can’t adopt another businessperson’s module or strategy. These people and others like them are sharing their “life stories” because each of them reveals strategies and models of how they run their companies. Which is the same thing of saying they are revealing how to be successful. If there is one word of advice you should take in the business world, it should be that of a CEO. All of them were not always CEOs; there was a path and strategy that lead them to how they came to be where they are. If someone is telling you how they became successful AND a CEO, chances are you’re going to want to listen to what they have to say.
